DeSoto Falls, Alabama: A Beautiful Stop on Lookout Mountain
Some places are worth planning a stop for, and DeSoto Falls was one of them.
During our travels through Alabama’s Lookout Mountain area, we made our way to DeSoto Falls near Mentone. We visited the overlook to take in the waterfall and surrounding scenery.
It’s the kind of destination that makes us appreciate having the freedom to explore at our own pace.
The View from the Overlook
One of the first things that caught our attention was the beautiful mosaic artwork decorating the steps leading down to the overlook. It’s such an unexpected detail and worth taking a moment to appreciate.
From the upper viewing area, you can see the historic dam and the water cascading over the rocks. A short walk and approximately 50 steps take you down to another overlook, where you get a view of the much larger DeSoto Falls.
It’s a great stop if you want to experience a beautiful waterfall without committing to a long hike. And with more than one vantage point, there are plenty of opportunities to capture some beautiful photos.
